East of the Sun Production :: THE STORY

Beginnings and Continuings

"East of the Sun" started as an idea between two performers, Natalie Nowytski and Laurel Armstrong. The idea was to create a narrative-driven show featuring a female heroine, and inspired by the aesthetics of Cirque du Soleil, the Flying Foot Forum (which is where they met performing), and Natalie's incredible musical background.

East of the Sun, West of the Moon was a perfect fit. The traditional Norwegian folk tale centers on a young woman in a world of great magic, darkness, and beauty. Natalie began composing the music in late 2015, and Nautilus Music Theater hosted two workshops featuring samples of "East of the Sun" as part of their Rough Cuts program in November of 2016, and July of 2017. In September of 2018 a dance workshop was produced with choreography by Elly Stahlke.

On September 28, 2019 a live concert of the score will be performed with a full orchestra, and the soundtrack will be available for sale at the show.
